Problems with Empower 2016 VM

asked on January 5, 2016

Hello all,

I've downloaded the 2016 VM three times. Once as a .7z file, which fails to extract, and twice as an executable, which fails with the following error message when running: "This app can't run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher.

I'm running a Microsoft Surface Book with an i5-6300 CPU, 8 GB RAM and Windows 10 64-bit. Is anyone else experiencing issues with this? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Michael

I managed to get the .7z version to open by using the actual 7zip application instead of one of the three free alternatives I'd tried. I'm extracting the archive now.

Hi Michael,

You can extract the .exe by right-clicking it and using open with WinRAR or 7-zip, but auto-extraction by double-clicking an exe doesn't work at that size. We'll be swapping it out with a .rar later tonight that you can just open normally with winrar.

Note that the built-in windows zip extractors often can't handle archives larger than 2GB so you'd need 7zip or winrar.

Hi Justin,

I'd already deleted the .exe file once I'd had some success with the .7z. But thank you.

Be sure to use one of the recommended extractors.  If you don't the Empower 2016 VM files may not extract and you will end up with only the Virtual Player and no VM to have it play.

Also enabling vtx in the BIOS may be necessary.

Thanks!

Christine
