Question

I can't copy/paste folders or documents between repositories

asked on January 4, 2016

For quite some time now I have not been able to copy/paste folders and/or documents between my repositories.  Every time I try it just makes a copy of itself in the same spot I am trying to copy from.  I used to be able to do this.  Any hints on what might have changed that is stopping me from doing this?  We have been through at least one upgrade to 9.2 and it still didn't solve the problem.  My Development, Test and Enterprise repositories mirror each other as far as templates.

make sure you are logged into both repositories and not being timed out.  You can also do brief casing if there are large amount of documents/folders.

Can you export a briefcase from the source repository and import it into the target repository? That is what is going on under the hood when you copy between repositories. I suspect one of your accounts lacks the export or import rights necessary to do the copy.

I am logged into both repositories.  I am an admin on the system so I don't believe it is a lack of permissions.

I thought about a briefcase but I only wanted the folder structure not the 50,000 documents in the folders.

Thanks.

Does it work with CTRL+C/CTRL+V? Does it work if you copy/paste a single document? It works for me on the 9.2 client and two very different repositories.

No, Ctrl C / Ctrl V does not work.  No it does the same thing with a single document.  It just tries to recopy it in the same place I am copying from.  We have been through 2 client upgrades (to get to 9.2).  The last time I was able to do this was before the client upgrades.

Very strange. What if you drag a folder from one repository to another (from the left folder tree pane)?

I have attached screen shots.  I tried drag and drop from Dev to Test, right-click copy/paste, and Ctrl C/Ctrl V and all gave me the same results.

I created a folder and document called DragTest.  I attempted to copy it from Dev to Test.  It always asks me if I want to copy it.  I answer Yes. Then it says file already exists do I want to rename it.  If I say no it cancels it, if I say yes and rename it, it shows up in Dev instead of Test.

The client thinks the different repositories are the same repository, which is why the context menu has "Create Shortcuts Here". Does this happen on multiple workstations?

Another idea: If the repositories were created by replicating the SQL database, they would have the same GUID (stored in the dboptions table in the row 'uuid'), this can result in strange behavior because the GUID is used in some places to uniquely identify a repository.

I will have to check if it happens to others.  Only a few of use have right to move between repositories.  I don't think the repositories have the same GUID because this worked for me in the past.
