Question

Is there a way to adjust the "Saturation" of a 'Watermark'?

asked on January 4, 2016

Good Morning All!

I was browsing through the forums, help files, and various 'Watermark' configuration settings, but was unable to find anywhere and/or the ability to adjust the level of "saturation", that the current Watermark imprints.

Our concern is not the Size or Angle, but more-so if the printed Watermark might be just a bit too dark that it might cover up various information on Records/Files being exported.

If this is currently not a possibility, could this be a suggestion sent to the Development Team?

Thank you all! =)

Hi Clint,

Thanks for asking.

If you are using Web Access to export the watermarked documents, the watermark intensity is not configurable. There is no plan to make this setting available to normal (unprivileged) users because it might otherwise allow an unprivileged user to evade the watermarking as a security measure, by setting the watermark intensity to a very low value.

If you are using the .NET SDK (RepositoryAccess and DocumentServices), the watermark intensity can be controlled by setting the WatermarkIntensity property on the Laserfiche.DocumentServices.DocumentExporter object before calling ExportPages. The default value is 20 (out of 100). Our rationale is that the .NET SDK will be used by a privileged user with advanced knowledge who is able to choose a sane value that strikes a balance between watermark visibility and non-obstruction.

I understand that there are reasons for organizations to opt for different watermark intensity, because output devices (such as laser printers, ink-jet printers, LCD monitors, etc.) have different intensity response curves that may render a watermark as either too light or too dark. If your organization is deeply affected by this issue, please consider opening a support case. Please be ready to provide:

  • One or more document images (with the same layout of the affected document, but filled with mocked text) to illustrate how the watermark is occluding the document text;
  • Printouts from the printers that had issues with the watermark intensity;
  • Also, please cite this question URL when opening the support case.

Thanks,

Update from development:

We might allow the watermark intensity to be increased in the future, with a floor configured by an administrator.

(As usual, this is not a guarantee, but it has been added to the list of features planned for a future release. It will not be in the soon-to-be-announced upcoming release, though.)
