Error when trying to activate LF Server 8.3

asked on December 15, 2015

I have a customer that stopped using LaserFiche a few years back but now needs to access a file from LaserFiche.  The server has since been virtualized and they need to activate LaserFiche.  When they attempt the received an error.  "The content type text/html of the response message does not match the content type of the binding....  The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred."

This seems like its related to LaserFiche's activation server.  I saw a related post, and the LF support said to try again and it worked.

Thanks for reporting this, Jeff. The issue is actually that there are no more activations available for the key you're trying to use. This means that the key is still activated on the old machine which would then prevent you from activating the same key on another machine. P2V would change the fingerprint used in the activation process.

We're working with our infrastructure team to fix the error handling so it provides the accurate message again.

However, for now, please open a case with Laserfiche Support for assistance with the manual deactivation. If the customer's LSAP has expired, note that it will need to be renewed first.

We just had a similar problem that was resolved in a support case with Laserfiche. There should probably be a KB for this but hopefully an answers post helps. Activation tool v 8.1 no longer works. If you need to reactivate a 8.1 Laserfiche server you need to download the 8.3 activation tool. You will get the same error as above otherwise.

The issue isn't that you can't use the 8.1 Activation Tool to activate an 8.1 product. You need to use the 8.3 and higher Activation Tool to manually deactivate.
