Support for Exporting Flattened Transparency or burn in transparent images

asked on December 1, 2015 Show version history

Hi all,

I'm wondering if there is or will be future support for the flattening of transparent objects when exporting to pdf, notably pdf/a.

Currently PDF/A-1 does not support transparent objects but some products have worked around this by flattening the image to "burn in" the effect during the conversion process.

When testing this out using Laserfiche 9.2.1 and Web Access 9.2.1 I see this is not yet a supported feature. Images are applied with a solid background or an error message is presented upon attempt.

Goal: Maintain an image annotation with transparency effects to a when exporting to pdf/a without converting the object to a pdf annotation.

Is this supported in LF10 or on the radar for a future release?

Cheers,

Carl

Hi Carl,

Web Access 9.2 does support transparency for image annotations on PDF/A's if the annotation if converted into a PDF annotation. However, I confirmed that it does not appear to support burning in transparency, as you suggested. This functionality behaves the same was in Web Access 10 and the Desktop Client 10.

A bug request was filed already (SCR111209 for your reference) to add this to the Client. We'll look into fixing this in Web Access as well. We don't have immediate plans to add it, but it's something we can evaluate going forward.

CORRECTION: I originally said that transparency burn in works in Web Access 10, but transparency is only maintained if annotations are converted to PDF annotations.
