Question

Remote certificate is invalid workflow error

asked on November 25, 2015

Wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction for resolving and error I am getting in workflow.  I have had it in both my production server and my development server.

It seems to be an interval of "works for 4-5 emails" then throws an error and terminates workflows for 30 minutes.  Then without changing anything, will randomly work again.

I have spoken with my system admin, server admin, and email admin.  Email admin says nothing has changed on the email server.

In my dev environment, all the emails are going to the same person (me) since I am testing processes.  It is terminating and given this error on multiple workflows in different processes.  I can go into workflow admin console and send a test email.  Sometimes it works sometimes I get the error.  I have tried restarting the workflow service and subscriber numerous times.  I have even restarted the server itself.

Is there something else I should be checking.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Are you using SSL as part of the Workflow Email server?  Please have your IT verify that the SSL certificate used for the Mail server is still valid.

Also, try configuring Workflow to use a non-SSL connection to the email server.  Reference WF Admin Guide here.

I get the same error testing the web services URL in WF.  The URL is http so it should not be looking for a certificate?  There is a self-signed certificate on the server, but again, using http:// that shouldn't matter should it?

Is the URL valid Don? If you use your browser and put in the URL that you use for the Web Services, does it return a valid site?

I think it's being redirected.  Waiting for IT to confirm.

It was a combination of default settings in IIS...one was that it was being redirected.  Second was that it was requiring SSL when it shouldn't have been.  All set

Yes, it is set up for SSL.  Yes, it is still valid.  I just ran a workflow 15 minutes ago and it sent the first email just fine.  Got to the second email in the workflow and told me it was an invalid certificate.

I will try a non-SSL connection.  Thanks.

Please check your workflow and the email config for the second email.  Workflow can be configured to use the default Mail configuration through the WF configuration wizard, or it can be set-up within the email activity itself, in which case, it will ignore the default configuration and use that.  If it works for the default mail server, check your email activity and see if it is configured to use the default or another smtp server.
