Question

Data location UK or US?

asked on November 24, 2015

Hi All

We have a client who has a system (LF Classic with weblink) based in the UK. However they have a branch office in the US.

Currently all their data is hosted in the UK and they are having issues when accessing documents (especially large ones) as the file has to download over the pipe before they can view it to find if it is the correct document they need.

Would it be possible to host the data in their office in the US to increase the speed of viewing documents? Or would this cause any other issues?

Any suggestions would be greatly received

Laserfiche's N-tier architecture means that the data flows from the volume file server, to the Laserfiche server, to WebLink and finally to the user.  Since the Laserfiche server is the only component to read the volume directly, the distance from the file server to the user or to WebLink is not directly relevant.

Is there something you could do so that your users are better able to determine which documents they want before they open them?  Like better metadata indexing or changing the columns visible in the browser?
