Forms Lookup with multiple conditions

asked on November 12, 2015

Hi. I'm confused about how the "When" condition works when using multiple "When"'s for several rules tied to one database source. I want the lookup to find a row in the database that has the value in the ArticleID-opt-b-3-01 field in the SectionID column and the value entered in the "Enter the instance..." field in the InstanceID column for the first rule. The second rule is almost the same, but uses the. ArticleID-opt-b-3-02 field and the "Enter the instance...." field.

I created a rule as below:

The problem I'm having is that the first rule works. As soon as I enter information in the "Enter the instance..." field and click the Auto Fill button, the 8B3-02Revisions fields get the value from the database. However, the second rule doesn't seem to run. If I move the second rule above the first, the field for that rule gets the correct data from the database, but the other rule doesn't seem to work.

I've looked at the documentation, but I can't find anything about this. Does it have something to do with the same field having the Auto Fill button for both rules?

I'm sure I'm just missing something or not understanding how this has to be configured. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Sheila,

Each lookup rule must have its own "Auto fill" button. The button is always placed next to the bottom-most "When" condition of each lookup rule. Since both of your rules have the "Enter the instance..." field as their bottom-most "When" condition, they will fight for the button, and the top-most rule will take precedence.

I would suggest switching the order of your "When" conditions for each rule (i.e. putting "When 'Enter the instance...' at the top of each). That way, the "Auto fill" buttons will appear alongside each "ArticleID" field.

Let me know if this works for you!

Thanks. That's what I did and it works. I just wasn't sure if there was a way to get them both to use the same Auto Fill.
