Web Access Freehand Tool

asked on November 5, 2015

I am accessing Web Access via my iPad from which I am trying to use the Freehand tool to append signature to a document image, but it does not seem to work.  Does this involve installation of a signature app? If so, which apps would you recommend?

Hi Ava,

Before I suggest some possibilities for appending signatures to your documents, it's important to differentiate between Laserfiche Digital Signatures, and filling a signature field on a document.

Laserfiche Digital Signatures are used to indicate that a document is authentic and signed by a particular person, since they are verified with personal signing certificates on individual computers. Laserfiche Digital Signatures do not always have a literal signature image attached to them, but users can upload an image file to be used if desired. However, since Digital Signatures are tied to the signing certificate located on the client machine, they are not available on mobile devices.

If you are simply looking for a way to sign your documents on the iPad, Laserfiche Mobile 10 will include the ability to draw a signature using the touchscreen and burn it into the image. Unfortunately, this update isn't targeted for release until the end of the month so this functionality isn't quite available yet!

As such, there is currently no built in mobile signature functionality in Laserfiche except in the case of Laserfiche Forms signature fields. However, our DocuSign integration makes it possible to place signatures on existing documents, and can be used with tablets. Docusign is a software that lets users upload and send documents for electronic signatures while specifying who needs to sign it. The integration lets users start a signing process with Docusign from Web Access and imports the signed documents back into the repository once the signing process is complete.

Because you might not need all of the features that the integration provides, you might also look into external methods for signing your documents before bringing them into the repository. Hope this helps!
