Question

WebDAV - File extensions - Prompting for default program

asked on October 26, 2015

Client implemented WebDAV for the Laserfiche System. They are able to successful browse the folders.

The issue that the End Users are running into is that the files don't have extensions when viewsed from the LasWebDAV folders. So when he attempts to open any document (electronic mainly), the Windows prompt comes up asking what application should be used to open that document.

Any ideas on what what needs to be done to resolve this issue? See screenshots below

The file extension needs to be part of the file name. In the Client, you need to enable the option to "Retain file extensions in electronic document names."

Then for any new documents that are imported into the repository from that Client, the extension will be in the document name and would allow the document to be opened in the native application via WebDAV without being prompted about which application to open the document in.

This is mentioned on this page.

If a document was saved in Laserfiche with its extension as part of its name, users can also navigate to the document in Windows Explorer using Web Folders and open it directly.

Thanks Alex.

Is there anything that can be done for ones that are already in Laserfiche but don't have the extensions retained in the electronic document name?

Perhaps you can use Workflow to rename the documents and append the extension. Search for those documents and include the extension as an additional property. Then iterate through each one (for each entry) and rename the file by appending the extension.

I assume that he doesn't not have admin privilages for his machine?  Then you would need to set the default programs for those electronic documents.

He does have admin privileges on the workstation as he is one of their administrators. I think since these files do not have any extensions, Windows is unable to determine their native applications.
