Hi there,
How can i put certain collums for everyone in laserfiche client?
I believe this can be accomplished by creating the columns you want for one user and then going into that users attributes in the Admin console and copying those attributes to the everyone group.
Blake is right, cofigure the columns in the client (log out to make sure they are saved), then in the admin console you copy your [XmlColumnDisplay]Data attributes from your user to the attributes on the Everyone group. Then you need to delete that attribute from existing users so that they inherit the default columns from the Everyone group.
Robert, your comment re "delete that attribute from the existing users".
I have been making too many changes to columns and saved searches, using either the ADMIN user and/or my own log-in. Now, I'm having trouble getting these things cleaned up, so that Everyone is seeing only what I want them to see for Saved Searches and Saved Column Profiles. I even recently deleted the "XMLColumn...has been moved" attributes from the Everyone user in an attempt to remove old column profiles that I cannot seem to remove. That actually removed one of my new ones.
I suspect that if I had been doing this second part as you suggest, I wouldn't be having this problem right now. So, if I create a new column profile that I want to share with Everyone, after I've added the attribute to the Everyone user, I go back into mine and delete it? I'm not sure I'm understanding this process correctly. ?
What users see is a merge of what is in the Everyone group attributes and their own attributes, with anything set on their attributes taking precedence.
You might want to use a separate account that is for storing the "clean" options/columns/column profiles. So you would delete all of the trustee attributes on this account (or you could use your normal account if you don't have special settings that you don't want to lose), then sign in with it and configure the columns / column profiles / other options, then sign out to make sure the changes are committed. Then in the admin console, copy all of that user's attributes to the Everyone group's attributes.
If you want to just push a new column profile to everyone, you could also just edit the xml directly on the Everyone group attributes. The xml format is pretty simple, you can view it in an online editor like this one.
Thanks, Robert. Good information. I've just tried again, using some of your suggestions, tried going into the editor (didn't save my changes somehow), tried physically copying one of my column profiles and pasting a new one in (while in the Admin console), then changing the data. Nothing seems to be working right now. I cannot get any new column profiles into someone's attributes without physically creating a new one while logged into LF on their client (as them).
I'm just going into a training session with my VAR right now. Hopefully, I can get him to troubleshoot this for me, as I think somethings not working right. I used to be able to do this and it's not working for me now.
Okay, great, we got it working. It seems the best way to do this is to export the XmlColumn Profile and Display data lines and import them into the Everybody.
I was trying to do this the old way and my VAR has explained that, even though I can see the attributes for the older Column Profiles in there, I must use this new Xml data to accomplish this. It's done, and all is good now. Thanks! He did read your posts there and some of the info you gave was helpful even to him! So, thanks again!
