Trying to avoid an infinite loop in Workflow

asked on October 20, 2015

I have written a Starting Rule in Laserfiche Workflow that says, "Anytime any document within a particular folder has a field modified, run the workflow".  From there, the workflow takes the change and applies it to the parent folder, as well as to all of the other documents within that folder.  But because the workflow changes the meta data on all of the other documents in the folder, this matches the starting rule and triggers the workflow to run again.

From your experience, does anyone have any thoughts on what I could do differently (whether with the starting rule or the actual workflow) to stop this infinite loop from happening?  It doesn't look like there's an option to have a condition only be checked during certain times of the day, so I'm hoping there might be another angle?

Thanks to anyone who can assist!

You can add a second condition to exclude the user specified in the workflow's connection profile so your rule becomes "any time any document withing a particular folder has a field changed by anybody other than Workflow, run the workflow".

Now that you mention it, I remember seeing this in another post now, and hadn't made the connection with the user initiating the workflow (until now).

Thanks again - much appreciated!
