Recycle bin, trouble searching , trouble restoring to search

A user is missing a document and was only able to provide the value of a field on the document. I understand you can not search directly from the recycle bin but when I try to restore everything to a temp folder, the option is grey and unusable.

Hi Chad,

I had a look at my demo system and found the "specified directory" option was greyed out when the original location was "\RECYCLE BIN". In these cases, the item couldn't be immediately recovered and I'd get an error message "...restore the entry with id <entry id> and try again."

The entry I was trying to restore was an "Electronic File" and had a corresponding "Document" in the recycle bin with the same entry id. Once I had restored the Document (to any folder), the Electronic File component restored automatically or could then be restored manually (but eeither way, it will become re-attach to the Document automatically.) I don't know how to predict if the Electronic File will restore automatically or not.

I'm thinking this has to do with volume security but I'm not sure.

 

However you could try doing an audit trail search to locate the name of the deleted document by that field, then find that.
