Question

Viewing .TXT files in the LF Client/Weblink/Webaccess natively with V.9

asked on October 8, 2015 Show version history

Hello!

So, we are migrating from v7 to V9, with many of our repositories already converted.  I have run into an issue, though, and I haven't found a way around it yet.

We have a repository where we capture lots of text files from a unix server.  These are reports, and are captured in lieu of sending them to a printer.

This process has been great and saved massive amounts of paper.

When I started testing in V9, however, I found that the client and Weblink/WebAccess all want to open a text file like this in Wordpad or whatever association the client has.  Weblink/WebAccess want to download the file.

In v7, we were able to display that text document natively in the client.  I'm not sure if this was out-of-the-box or if it was a setting, but it worked well.

So... how can we accomplish the same thing with the new version?

Thanks so much!

In Weblink, by default, double-clicking on an electronic document from the Folder Browser will prompt you to download the electronic file associated with it. Once downloaded, clicking on the electronic file will open it in its native application. However, you can override this behavior.

To open electronic documents in the Document Viewer

  1. Click My WebLink in the menu at the top of the page.
  2. Under View Document Options, select Standard document display.

For the Client, you have to go to Tools > Options > View > Open with The Laserfiche Document Viewer.

For WebAccess,

  1. From the Tools menu, select Options.
  2. Click View, and select Open With.
  3. Under Open electronic documents using, do one of the following:
    • To view the electronic file by default, select The associated application.
      • If you are using Laserfiche Rio or Avante and want to use WebDAV to open the documents directly rather than from a local copy, select Open files directly.
      • If you want to open electronic documents in a read-only state by default, select Open files in a read-only state.
    • To view an electronic document through the Document Viewer by default, select Standard document display.

Thank you!

A followup question - can I change the font used by WebAccess for the "text" pane?  These reports look best with a fixed-width font.  Weblink displays using CourierNew or something similar, but WebAccess uses a proportional font.

Thanks!

We have a bunch of resources on the support site that show how to customize the web products and what level of customization is supported. A few good starting places off the top of my head our ACI205-Using the Web Products in your Integration from Empower 2015,  EDM207: Customizing Web Products and EDM302: Advanced Web Customizations from Empower 2014.

OK - I'm still having an issue...  : )

I asked at Empower and thought we had it, but I am still striking out.

Where can I change the font used for the text pane to a monospaced font?

We thought the key was to change the font in blankTextEdit.html but that hasn't worked for me.

Can anyone offer any assistance?

Thanks

Mike

By text files, you mean files with a *.txt extension?

I've imported several to check this into v9 (across 9.0-9.2) and I am able to view them through the Text Pane in both the desktop client and in Web Access. Were these text files originally imported to v7? In Properties > Page Info is there a text file under "Text path"? If so can you check this file in the Volumes to assess its nature?

It seems that the default behavior for LF9 is to display them from within the client.
