Question

What functionality or access is lost to an application server that doesn't get access to License Manager?

asked on October 7, 2015

We have a client interested in moving from Classic to Rio. Their current Classic configuration includes several "Laserfiche Notebook" systems.

The business requirement for these systems originally was that they had field users with machines that would rarely if ever have internet or network connection. In the field, they would need access to these files in Laserfiche, and need the ability to add documents to Laserfiche. They would like to move to Rio and set up or migrate these Notebook systems to local Laserfiche systems on these machines. Once again, these machines are used in the field without any internet access.

These users have no need to share information or move info from their individual systems, just need Laserfiche systems running locally on their machines without network or internet access.

Is this possible in Rio, what are the ramifications? Would it be possible if the machines get network access say, once a week?

Thoughts?

Hi Logan,

If the standalone computers will be connecting to the network at least once a week, then that should prevent the Laserfiche Server licenses from exceeding the grace period (7 days of not being able to connect to the License Manager/Directory Server) and getting stale. So this should work for the customer. If the grace period is exceeded, then the Laserfiche Server will stop running. You can restart the service, but it'll only run for an hour before it stops again. You can refer to this thread.
