Question

Restrict copy and paste of folders and documents within the LF repository

asked on October 3, 2015

Hi all,

I want to know how to restrict copy and paste of folders and documents within the LF repository. Can you please advise?

But, the possibility to drag a document from a local drive and drop it within LF repository should be allowed. I have granted the following access rights: Import feature right and Create Documents access rights at folder level.

Thanks

Hi Sheila,

I don't think you can restrict copy at least, as if the user had browse and read rights (read-only) then they will be able to copy the document and paste it anywhere in the repository where they have rights to create documents. Also on the same token, if the user has the create documents right they will be able to do just that, create documents, regardless if it is using copy and paste, drag and drop or scanning into that folder.

Sounds like this certainly isn't possible at the moment but you could always change this to a feature request, asking for the ability to control the copy/paste creation of documents differently to the create documents by other methods.

Hope this helps!

It depends on what kind of restriction you are looking for. For example, if you are looking to protect confidential documents from being copied/moved to another folder, you could look into VERS classification levels.

From the help files:

VERS classifications levels provide a way for an organization to ensure that documents remain in folders of a similar or higher level of confidentiality. In most Laserfiche scenarios, and according to Laserfiche best practices, most documents will inherit entry access rights from their folders. This provides many benefits in terms of consistency and convenience, but can cause problems if documents are inadvertently moved to folders with less-restrictive security settings. Classification levels act as an extra check, preventing entries from being moved such that they will inherit less-restrictive security than is appropriate.

So, for example, if a document is marked as "Highly Classified", it can only be moved or copied to folders that are also "Highly Classified" (or of an even higher classification level).

If that doesn't help, could you explain your use case a little more? It may be possible to accomplish the functionality you want, even though there isn't a specific "Copy" feature right.
