Question

Using a tag to initiate a workflow

asked on September 21, 2015

Hi,

We have a current filing structure that is needing to change. I have the workflow created that updates the filing structure and places a laserfiche file in the right spot. But I'm not able to get it to work for a file already in laserfiche.

What we are hoping to do is add a tag to a file and when the file is saved it sets off the workflow. I haven't been able to figure out what the exact starting rule is that will make this work. Here are my starting rules.

The goal is that they will go to the metadata and update the info and then add the tag and save. Then the file should move. Can you tell me what I'm missing?

Thanks!

I would also consider making this workflow a business process. I've started replacing my workflows that trigger off of tags with business processes. I think it is a little more elegant and makes the use of tags more focused.

How would I change this to a business process?

In the Workflow Designer, open the workflow and click anywhere in the white space to select the whole workflow. There will be a Business Process Options section in the Properties pane.

That looks like it would work. Check out the Subscriber Trace to see how your condition evaluated. Keep in mind that it takes about 30 seconds after a rule was published to take effect.
