Question

Question

restrict export of certain documents

asked on September 17, 2015

I looks like this may have kind of been asked before, but is there a way to lock down certain documents so that they cannot be exported printed etc, while others can be. It seems the answer is no, which blows my mind because it seems like there are so many use cases for it.

Example: staff can look at any bylaw they want, but the agenda for a closed meeting they can look at, we remove it as soon as the meeting is over, and it could never be exported so aside from screenshots we are good.

With security, you can prevent users from emailing, printing, or downloading from the repository. For example, if you wanted your users to be able to edit meeting agendas without being able to export them, you could assign users the feature right ‘edit text’ but not 'export' or 'print'.

So where do I actually set the export yes no in a folder, because I have only seen it in the user account properties?

As you noted in your original question, export and print are feature rights that are repository-wide, they cannot be specified on the individual entry level. The reason for this is it's not really something that Laserfiche can truly protect - as you note, users could simply take screenshots, or for electronic documents simply open them in their native application and go from there.

One approach people have used is to make use of tag watermarks for documents, placing a 'do not distribute' watermark on them, something like that.
