Question

LF Forms Configuration

asked on September 15, 2015

Hi, I am on the first step of the LF Forms Configuration and the Forms server doesn't see my SQL Server which I would like to use. Out of my whole environment it only sees one server because that sever has Report Services.

This is the error I get if I try to manually add the server:

ERROR [08001] [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2]. ERROR [HYT00] [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Login timeout expired ERROR [08001] [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.

The error indicates that the SQL Server Service is not running but it is, Windows Firewall is off so adding a SQL port to it doesn’t make sense. Avante Server is set to allow remote connections to this server both in MS SQL and the Remote Desktop app. SQL Server Browser service is also running and the server has no aliases. That is pretty much what I tried to troubleshoot. The Avante server is a 2008 R2 not a 2005 but that error indicates that the service is stopped (it is running).

Additional, does a db for Forms need to already exist or does it get created through the configuration utility?

My forms server is 2012 R2 and the SQL Server is 2008 R2.

Any help would be very welcome,

Thank you!

Lydia

Is this SQL server a fresh install or was it only used with applications that were on the same machine? SQL Server is not open to external communication by default, so I'd check on that first. See this Microsoft page for instructions.
