Ah OK. So, you can only search on the values you have extracted. You cannot search the barcodes directly from within the client. For this you will need to re-process the documents through Quick Fields.

Hand-held barcode scanners are usually accompanied with software drivers which can convert the scanned barcode into a string which is then typed into the currently running software (as if the string was entered through a virtual USB keyboard). The string can then be used as a search criteria in Laserfiche.

If the customer does not use any hardware barcode scanners, then the customer will first need to decide how the barcode would be scanned into the computer.

Quick Fields can recognize barcodes on scanned document images. Once recognized, they are converted into the same string as a hand-held barcode scanner would.

It would be awkward to try to use a document scanner for a purpose that is normally fulfilled by hand-held barcode scanners, due to differences in their hardware design.

I will also ask my coworkers in the Mobile team to see if they have better suggestions.

Are you suggesting that they use the physical barcode scanner to scan the document on the screen? frown

By the sounds of it the documents are already scanned and in Laserfiche, so there are no physical documents here to scan with a hardware barcode scanner?

I suppose Anas will explain more about their customer's scenario.

I think what he is asking is if the customer have some physical objects (such as files, folders, or boxes of documents) which bear the same barcode that is attached onto some scanned documents, and they would like to link the physical objects to documents in Laserfiche.

Regardless of the customer's use cases, the question remain: the manner through which the barcode is to be digitized will determine what tools (hardware or software) would be best for integrating with the search and retrieval functionality of Laserfiche.

Hi Anas,

Barcode recognition is a processing option available in Quick Fields. I am assuming you have mapped the contents of the barcode into a metadata field within Laserfiche? If not, without re-processing them through Quick Fields there is no way within the client to 'search' barcodes, if I have understood your question correctly?

Cheers!

What I meant in my question is can client perform search using barcode or just he can perform the search using the values we extracted from the barcodes?
