Question

Template Behavior

asked on September 14, 2015

Hello,

I just imported a large amount of documents into the repo using several different templates. The data was all over the place and some required fields weren't provided indexing values. To import them I just made the required fields non required.

My question is, how would Laserfiche respond if i go back into the template and now make those fields required.

When the customer opens the file will they be required to fill in metadata for those required fields now?

Will any corruption happen by making fields required on documents that don't have any indexing values for those fields even though they already reside in the repo?

Thanks

If documents in the repository are assigned a template with non-required fields and you later make those fields required, then that won't affect those documents. If you were to modify the fields for those documents, you would need to then fill in the required field. Also, new documents from this point on assigned that template/field will need to have a value specified.
