asked on September 14, 2015

Is there a way to store the original date and time properties of photos that have been dragged and dropped into Laserfiche version 8.3?

Are they photos from a camera that have EXIF information stored with them? If so, instead of dragging and dropping can you try using Photodocs? I believe it debuted in an early 8.x versionand will let you set DateTaken from the photo metadata.

Hello Heather,

Can you provide your specific use case for this?

By default, Laserfiche will convert imported files into TIFF and generate a file creation date when it’s stored in the repository. To preserve the original date and time properties of the photo documents, you can import the files in its original format. To configure this setting, go to Options under Tools in the Menu Bar, select File Conversion and remove the file types that will be converted when imported into Laserfiche. By doing so, Laserfiche will retain the “last modified date” on the electronic document properties. You can verify this by right-clicking on the imported image file and select Properties.

For more information regarding importing files using drag and drop or other methods, please refer to Laserfiche User Guide.

Let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you.

Thanks - this does show the original date the photo was take in the properties but we are not able to import multiple photos in a batch - which is also a request of this area.  This is for one of our departments that needs to store batches of photos from a scene and would like to be able to retain the original date and time of photo

Hello Heather,

If you are importing multiple photos, we can accomplish this is by performing batch scanning using Standard Mode Scanning or Quick Fields and use tokens to dynamically populate the original creation date and modification date as field values (see below). However, keep in mind that under document properties, the creation date will be the date when the files are brought into Laserfiche. Would that work in your case?

If you have any specific questions about tokens, please refer to the Standard Tokens section in the Quick Fields Help File.

I hope this helps!
