Question

Any performance issues after volume is encrypted?

asked on September 9, 2015 Show version history

We are looking into encrypting the volumes in admin console. We have huge volume of documents. Wondering if encryption has caused anyone to experience performance issues, while retrieving, indexing, routing documents etc.
Any issues while encryption is in progress?
I'll appreciate if you can also share any issues or downside of encryption you have experienced.
Also, our security team wants to know if we can change encryption passwords periodically?

Thank you.

We use Laserfiche Encryption. There is no performance issue as such while retrieving, indexing and routing. However, while encrypting a volume with large number of documents for the first time, it took long time to complete the operation.

The downside of this method is that whenever there is a service restart, Volume gets locked and you have to manually unlock each volume.

You may validate EFS if your organization's infosec policy allows it.

Hey Srikanth,

I believe we met at LF conference. Hope things are going well with you. Thanks for responding.

New volume is created for our repositories every 20 GB. So we have say 60 such volumes to encrypt. Did you mean we have to unlock each one of them or there is a way to enter password only once per repository?

Thanks.
