Combine Images into Single Doc Upon Drag and Drop Import - Pages Out of Order

asked on September 2, 2015

I am having issues helping a client, they have 3 JPEGs and 1 TIFF image that they are selected together in their File Explorer and dragging and dropping into the Laserfiche Client.  They have the setting set to "Combine images into a single document", but after import the pages within that single document are out of order.

When importing them all separately, they appear in alphabetical order.  When combining them into one document, they lose that alphabetical order, putting images that should be at the end, in the front.  The order that they change to is never the same.

They are on Version 9.1.1 Service Pack 2 (9.1.1.584) and have started to notice this issue after having installed Windows 10 on a few machines.

I have tested on my machine on 9.2 and 9.1 of the Client and the orders were still being mixed up.

When the files were viewed as Large Icons in the File explorer and then selected and dragged and dropped into the LF Client, the pages remained in alphabetical order.

If the files were viewed as a Detailed list view in the file explorer and then imported into LF Client the same way as above, the pages were not in alphabetical order.

Don't understand why this makes a difference, but for now I advised my client to import the large icons opposed to the list view.

Hi Lana,

With the 9.1.1 Client, I get the behavior that the page order reflects the order of the files as they were in Windows Explorer. For example, I have four images arranged a certain way on the Desktop and when I select the files and drag them into the Client while combining into a single document, the page order reflects the same document order.

But when I test using the latest 9.2.1 Client, the pages are in the correct order (alphabetical ascending). It behaved the same when using the Details and Large Icons view. If you're seeing something different when you test your files in the 9.2.1 Client, please open a case with Laserfiche Support and provide a copy of the images you're importing.

Hi all,

I thought I would say a few words based on publicly available information.

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6128962/how-do-i-maintain-the-file-order-in-windows-explorer-when-drag-and-dropping-file

According to this post, the order of items which are dragged-and-dropped in Windows Explorer depend on the order in which each item become highlighted.

To put it in the user's perspective, the behavior depends on the mouse gesture and the way of mouse-clicking in Windows Explorer.

It might be the case that using the "Large Icons View" somehow encourages the user to click each icon one-by-one, thus making it more likely that the order of clicking reflects the user's desired behavior.

Meanwhile, in the "Detailed List View", the user may drag over an area from one corner to another corner. For example, if the rectangle is dragged from a lower-corner to a top-corner, it may result in items being sent in the reverse order.

A workaround is to import the files as separate documents, and then combine the pages inside Laserfiche Client.

(I have not personally tested this. Please let me know if my suggestion works or not.)
