Question

Forms Technology for field rules

asked on September 1, 2015

I am hoping to get some more information about behind the scenes technology on Laserfiche Forms.

We have been using Internal forms for around a year and it has been working great.

Bit of a background info on why this question has come about;

One of our business functions is to provide secure access to Defence locations via Manned Access Points.

The current process in condensed version, Defence are our Client;

1.      Defence staff fill out excel spreadsheet downloaded from Defence Intranet
2.      Spreadsheet is emailed to Defence Access Manager for approval. (Sometimes the excel SS is skipped and Defence Staff will just email details in body of email.
3.      Defence Access Manager liaises with originator and once approved forwards on to our Team Leader via email.
4.      Our Team Leader enters details into LF form hosted on our LF server, manually copying/pasting from the Excel Spreadsheet emailed to him.
5.      Form is saved into Laserfiche and is distributed to the appropriate Manned Access Point folder for the date range required.
6.      Manned Access Points open Laserfiche folder with the days entry and this is used for access to gates.

Once we receive the email all data is handled within our WAN with our hardware only.

The new process we would like to implement;

1.      Defence staff fill out Laserfiche form (hosted in our Head Office via public forms portal), link placed on Defence Intranet
2.      Email is sent to Defence Access Manager who approves or rejects submission, originator is advised of outcome.
3.      If approved, form is loaded into Laserfiche and distributed to appropriate Manned Access Point folder.
4.      Manned Access Points open Laserfiche folder for todays and this is used for access to gates.

As you can see what we are trying to do is optimise the process and get rid of double/triple data entry, improve visibility to all and offer something unique to the industry.

The issue is that the Defence PC's are all a standard image PC severely locked down with Internet Explorer 9 and no plans to update anytime soon.  When we have asked them to test the form we have found the field rules do not work at all ruining the whole process from the start :-(.  They are able to submit the form.

So I have three options;

1. Provide information to Defence IT on what functions in the browser need to be active for the form to work properly and then they determine if they can make the required changes.

2. Come up with another way to use field rules.

3. Split the forms out and have no field rules.

Ideally, I am hoping that the LF team can provide the information in Point 1 so we can get the form working properly without redesigning.  I also think it would be beneficial for a lot of people in LF land to know this info for troubleshooting.

For point 2, it would be great if anyone had any ideas on hiding/showing fields or anything that I have not thought of.   I will do some testing on Point 3.

We don't have access to the Defence PC's for testing at all so it is a painful process.

I have attached screen shots of the form.

Thanks for your time in reading.

Cheers

Ross

Hello Ross,

Laserfiche Forms is compatible with Chrome, Safari(Mac only), Firefox 3.5 and higher, Internet Explorer 7 and higher, Opera, and supports mobile browsing from iPad 2 and higher. Forms and field rules should work properly on Internet Explorer 9.

You are most likely seeing this issue due to your client’s lock down security settings. Is javascript disabled on your client’s web browser? This can affect how forms are displayed. Try enabling scripting by going to Internet Options under Tools in the Menu Bar and see if this works. For more information on the step-by-step instructions, please refer to Microsoft Support Site.

For more information about Forms configuration and recommended browsers, please refer to Installing Laserfiche Forms section in the Laserfiche Form 9.1 help file. This online help file is updated on a regular basis and can guide you through Forms configuration and designing process.

Let us know if this works. Thank you.
