Question

Can Date Tokens used in the AutoName section of the LF Client be formatted?

asked on August 31, 2015 Show version history

Client indicates that LF used to autoname imported files using Long Date format.  Recently this appears to have changed for them.  If they utilize token formatting similar to the workflow examples it no longer uses the token but rather just names the file 'raw' (see screenshots).

Fig 3. File that is created upon completion.

As you can see it no longer utilizes Date as a token but rather just as a raw string.

Note: using %(Date) works just fine and creates the following file:

Yes, they can. The Laserfiche client, Snapshot, PhotoDocs, and Import Agent use one style of formatting tokens, and Quick Fields, LF Scanning, and Workflow use another style. The style that uses the '#' character as a separator is the QF/Scanning/WF style. The LF client uses ';' as the separator, so you would use %(Date;D). Also, the symbols that are used are different; please consult https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/9.2/en-US/AdminGuide/LFAdmin.htm#Custom_Date_Time_Field_Display.htm%3FTocPath%3DLaserfiche%2520Administration%2520Guide%7CMetadata%2520Administration%7CFields%2520and%2520Templates%7CFields%7CCreating%2520a%2520Field%7CField%2520Display%2520Formats%7C_____1

That worked perfectly, not sure why my searching on Date Token formatting didn't pull that document up.  Thanks again!

Follow-up question: Is there a way to associate 1 format to a specific template and a different format for another? Rather than have this as a global import format?

There's no way to link formats to templates. You can configure the formatting for date and number fields, but those are applied across templates.

Ok thanks.  Do you know if this functionality was ever present?  Or better yet will it be added in the future?

There was never a way to link formatting settings to a particular template. I suggest creating different fields to store your data if you want them to have different default formats depending on which template is assigned to the entry.
