Question

Can SDK Runtime slowing down other services?

asked on August 14, 2015

Hello All,

Using SDK 8.3 Runtime on 2012 R2 to run a custom LF web service.

Successfully moved my old service from a 2003 server to 2012 (see post), but is only setup and functional so far; no actual use yet, just a couple test runs.

However users of another (Non-Laserfiche) service/site on the same server are "saying" that things are running much slower since the day the SDK Runtime was installed.

It that even possible? How could an existing Non-Laserfiche, non-related resource slowdown just because the Runtime was installed? These have separate application pools, IP's, and such. I've only made an occasional call to my LF service and it seems to work great. The server was rebooted after the install just to be clean.

ANY input is appreciated.

Thanks.

The LF SDK runtime just installs libraries which are available to use by programs which load them. No services or programs are installed, so there's no way performance could be impacted by installing it. By itself, the libraries do absolutely nothing and are just files on your disk.

It's very possible your server started running more slowly on the same day the LF SDK runtime was installed, but if so, the root cause lies elsewhere.

Thank you for your quick reply Michael.

That's exactly what we thought/felt; but I wanted to ask the experts just in case.

It also now seems their performance issues are sporadic, so it's even less likely.

If anything ever does point back at the "Runtime Install" I'll add info here. But I really doubt their issue has anything to with Laserfiche files.
