Question

windows updates

asked on August 14, 2015

We have noticed lately on numerous occasions when we do windows updates (weds nights county wide) that many of our users lose some of their Laserfiche client settings.  I was able to see this first hand yesterday.  They lost their view font size, they lost the default template and volume, the ability to use topaz signature pads to sign PDFs, and many others.  Does anyone know why windows has the ability to change the LF settings without user intervention?  I shut the machine down the night before after using it...brought it up the next day and answered yes to the updates.  Then the machine had the changes.

We are running 2013 with 9.1 client version.

Hi Bonnie,

That's not something that should be happening. All of these settings are stored in the Laserfiche database, windows updates shouldn't have any impact on it.

I've noticed you've had a lot of situations where users are losing their settings, so I'm going to throw out a random idea here. We've encountered situations in the past where an organization set up scripts that would reset users' settings out from under them, that ran every night or once a week. The idea here was to use this to force resetting the users settings to the default values. The problem is that often the users (or even other admins) don't know this is in place and it looks like their settings just randomly get reset. I don't know if that's what's going on in your scenario, but I wanted to raise that possibility since you keep encountering these weird issues with your users' settings being reset.
