Question

Attachment Annotations

asked on August 12, 2015

We used the Attachment Annotation and noticed that if I delete the Attachment Annotation it does not get deleted from the volume nor does it go to the Recycle Bin.

  1. How does Records Management handle the Attachment when the document gets destroyed?
  2. Why does the attachment file not get deleted from the volume when the attachment is deleted, are we not creating orphans?

When the document is destroyed, the attachments are deleted along with it. It doesn't disappear from the volume immediately because the actual file system cleanup happens in a background task.

Thanks for the info..  I will open a ticket to support, I am not seeing the file being deleted from the volume and has been a few days.

Thanks again, very helpful.

Great..  Another question.  What happens when I delete just the Attachment, will it delete the same way as the file system cleanup?

Also, when does the file system cleanup happen?

Yes, if you delete just the attachment annotation, the file will get deleted from the volume by the same background task. It usually takes about 15 minutes or so.
