Quick Fields - Printing an unique DocumentID on scanned paper document & also to its electronic image

asked on August 12, 2015 Show version history

Hi,

Question: We do scan hundreds of paper images everyday. We generate an unique DocumentID from database and the printer prints the DocumentID on the scanned paper and the existing application stamp the DocumentID on the electronic tiff image.

We are planning to replace the existing application with QuickFields.

Is is possible to print this unique DocumentID generated from database on the paper document while it is being scanned using Quick Fields?

I believe that QuickFields can stamp this DocumentID on the electronic tiff image after it is being scanned. But is it possible to print it on the original paper document while it is being scanned?

Please advise.

Thank you!

Quick Fields does not have any printing capabilities. By the time the image gets to Quick Fields, it's already gone through the scanner, so it would be too late. This would have to be a feature on the scanner itself where it would add data to the paper before generating the image for it.

Thanks for the response!

However, does the Bates Numbering feature in Quick Fields provides ability to generate an unique DocumentID (from database) and then let it print on the paper document (using printer's imprint feature)?

All we need is an option to generate an unique DocumentID ("YYMMDDxxxxxx" where xxxxxx is the counter reset everyday and YYMMDD is current Date) and print this DocumentID on every scanned image while it gets scanned and use save this DocumentID value as one of the metadata in Quick Fields.

Please advise!

Quick Fields can apply the Bates number to the image using Permanent Stamp. Any documents printed afterwards will have the number, no need for printer features.

Thank you!

However our requirement is to print an unique DocumentID (in "YYMMDDxxxxxx" format) on the original paper document while it is being scanned.

Is there any ways to achieve this requirement using QuickFields?

If I understand your need, you want the physical paper to have the number on it as well as the image?

If this is the case, you need a scanner with an imprinter and then through the scanner driver, you can set up to print the numbers onto the pages at scan time.  This is a scanner function and not a QuickFields function.  As Miruna stated above:

Quick Fields does not have any printing capabilities.

And the QF Bates numbering is only applied to the image.
