Question

Removing Electronic Doc Extensions from Search Options

asked on August 11, 2015

Hi all,

Within the search customisations there is the option to search for specific types of electronic documents. The user is presented with a list of extensions that are in the repository (.pdf, .docx, .msg, etc.) and they can select the ones they want to search on.

Is it possible to manually remove values from the list of extensions that can be selected?

Many thanks,

Martin

This isn't currently possible.  What is the use case here - what problem is solved by removing values from the list?  Are there extensions that are no longer in use?  Are you suggesting a per-user list?

Fair enough, thanks for the response. The reason I ask is there are values in the list that I would consider "junk". The list contains has a bunch of values that match the format:

  • 14_word0
  • 17_word1
  • 17_word2
  • 19_word3

They aren't really valid extensions and searching on these values doesn't return any documents, so they do nothing except pollute the top of the list. I'm not sure how they got there.... maybe something like a document name that contained full stops, perhaps as part of a date, and the content trailing the last full stop was inserted into the list.

I have a vague memory of removing unwanted extensions from a database table in an earlier version of LF, but I can't seem to find this now.

Hi Martin,

These can be removed from within SQL. The table is Extension_Cache.

Cheers!
