Trigger Workflow only when Single Field Value Changes

Is there a way to have a starting rule only trigger when a single field value on an entry changes ?

I have a document with a date field. I would like a workflow to only be triggered when the date field changes.

Currently any change to the document triggers the workflow.

Hey Darcy,

There is no way to do it as a starting rule, but you can use the 'Wait for Entry Change' activity in the workflow tools.  See screenshot below.  The key then would be figuring out when to run this workflow and maybe someone else can provide a better suggestion for that.  You certainly bring up a possible enhancement - it would be nice to look at a specific field and monitor it changing to trigger a workflow.

            Did Nate’s suggestion work for you?  If you could share more information about your process, like the starting conditions and a screenshot of your workflow, we could come up with a solution that is best suited for you.

My scenario is very straight forward. I have a document with a Maturity Date field. When the date changes I would like to update a History Field with the date of the change. Currently anytime I make any change to the document the workflow triggers. I have the workflow end immediately if the change was not on the Maturity date field, but it still runs with every change on the document. My concern is the workflow is triggering unnecessarily. Will this become a problem as the repository grow and multiply documents are being edited by multiply users ?

You could tag the documents as "Date Changed" and set that as a starting condition to indicate which documents you want workflow to pick up. It's hard to recommend a solution without the details of the whole process.

How would you suggest tagging the document when the date field changes ?

The complete process is as follows. When an investment documents associated maturity date field changes the date of the change needs to be added to the associated history field for the document.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
