Question

Point web based application to Laserfiche Document

asked on August 5, 2015

Hi all,

We have a client that uses Laserfiche and they also use a web based application to run their business. They have asked if there is a way for them to point the web based application to specific Laserfiche documents. I will add a screenshot of the options the web based app provides for linking to files. Is there anyway to accomplish this?

This would be simple with either Web Access or WebLink.

If the customer has Web Access or WebLink, then you can probably use the "Web Address" option and reference the URL of the document.

Mark,

Another way to achieve this is by using Laserfiche Shortcuts. The idea is to create a shortcut using Laserfiche Client, placing that shortcut into a folder on the webserver that is accessible from a web browser and then creating the hyperlink to it (ie "My Laserfiche Document.lfe"). For this to properly work you will need to add the Laserfiche LFE mime type to the web server ("lfe", "application/vnd.laserfiche.lfe") so that it knows to send it properly to the client.

I have successfully tested this and it works like a charm! If you wish to know more about how to easily create a shortcut in the client see https://www.laserfiche.com/ecmblog/tech-tip-shortcuts-to-the-laserfiche-client-2/

Remember, this will only work if the Laserfiche Client is installed and that the user has access to the actual entry in Laserfiche.

I don't have enough information about this 3rd party web application, but perhaps if you use WebDAV with Laserfiche, then you might be able to use the option to "Point To File on Local Network/PC"

But where would we point it to? For example, currently they have some PDF files on their server network share which they use the "Point To File on Local Network/PC" option. But with Laserfiche it is not as simple as pointing to a file path is it?

See this help page regarding the WebDAV implementation in Laserfiche.
