Forms Licensing - Which key to use?

asked on August 4, 2015

With Forms licensing you get a history of Keys each time more add-ons are purchased. Which key is the correct key to use for including all add-ons.

I thought I was told to use the latest key but ran into a problem recently.

We had a customer buy Forms, then add on Portal, then add on Participant licenses. The very latest key was the participant key and when the participant key was installed the portal functionality was removed. Then when we went back to the portal key the participant licenses were in the portal key. But this was the original key we were using back before it had participants in it. Crazy!

There should be a big clear pointer to which key contains the entire package.

Hi Chad, if you have both Portal and Authentication participants you should have a one-instance license for non-portal w/ participants and a one-instance license for portal w/ participants. That way you can use the participants on either Portal or non-portal, since we can't otherwise know. There's no 'portal w/out participants' key becuase that doesn't make sense, so the original Portal key gets the participants added. That's why the participants were also in the original Portal key, which sounds like the one you want to use.

Ok, so never use any keys other than the one labeled portal or the default one. The thing was, we were already using portal, why did we need to install anything. They sent us a new key and requested an install, that was the Participant key. We never received a new portal key, I just went back to the old one.

You didn't need to reinstall anything, you just should have needed to reactivate the key you already were using in order for it to have the new information.
