Report Writing 101 - New to Laserfiche and need to find a resource for report writing

asked on July 31, 2015

We are new to Laserfiche and have received no information on how to write reports.

Specifically, we are trying to extract selected fields for various custom reports to be presented in an efficient and professional format.  The reports will be accessed by individuals who do not actively use Laserfiche so the reports must be accessible with a very limited number of actions or maybe pushed to a file outside of Laserfiche.  We are also wanting to have the fields in the reports updated automatically so the reports are basically "real time" and the party accessing the reports does not have to go through a process to update them.

Can anyone direct me to a resource for these needs?

Probably the easiest solution would be to use some kind of SQL reporting tool.  These reports would be on live data and your organization likely already has someone familiar with the tools.  There would be a learning curve regarding the Laserfiche schema, and the table structure may change during an upgrade.

Another approach might be to generate reports based on workflow or BP events, like a managerial approval.  In that case you could run custom code to pull data from the repository and create a report in whatever format you like.  You could distribute the information in any number of ways: email, storing it in Laserfiche, writing it to a network location.

Thank you.  Does anyone have a consulting resource for designing and putting a reporting process in place?
