Question

Question

Can the DCC do on-demand OCR, or is it scheduled OCR only?

asked on July 29, 2015

We have a Workflow branch in which if one of the branch conditions is met, we need the document to be re-OCR'ed using different OCR settings (despeckle, deskew, line removal, etc.) and then for Workflow to continue after this OCR process is done.

Is this possible?

You can setup the DCC OCR process as it's own Worklfow and check the business process option to turn it into a business process Workflow.

Then you can just use the Invoke Workflow option to call that workflow at any place in your main Workflow process.

OCR requests are added to the DCC queue, Workflow will not wait for the results of the OCR request.

Thanks Miruna. Will Workflow be able to start Quick Fields sessions in the next release? I remember hearing about a server-based Quick Fields, but I'm not sure what functionality is going into it exactly.

We're in desperate need of OCR'ing documents using different OCR settings. Right now everything comes through Import Agent, which unfortunately has implemented OCR settings at the application level, as opposed to the profile level. And we can't tell users to re-OCR stuff because they are the exact opposite of tech-savvy. :)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Not in the version coming out this year. I'm not sure I understand why scheduled OCR is not working for you since it offers the same settings as the Client OCR and how using Quick Fields would make a difference.
