Question

laserfiche capture engine not importing pdfs

asked on July 29, 2015

Hi all,

Hopefully this is a simple one...

I'm using WebDAV to import PDFs into Laserfiche. Then using the Laserfiche Capture Engine of Quick Fields to perform minimal processing.

The problem is the PDFs are showing up in Quickfields a blank. I can view the PDFs in Laserfiche but it appears as though Quick Fields is stripping the electronic portion.

I've tried enabling and disabling "create pages" and "keep PDF" but no luck. Has anyone else seen this before or have any ideas where I can check?

Hi Miruna, you set me on the right path. Once I changed the mimetype *and* extension properties of DocumentInfo to "application/pdf" and "pdf" - respectively - Quick Fields was able to process the documents.

I've asked the LINUX devs to look into how they interface with WebDAV and created a workflow to rectify the problem in the mean time.

If you look at the document properties through the Client, what's the "type" displayed under Electronic Document Properties?

Hi Miruna,

I'm away form the office right now so can't check until tomorrow. Before Quick Fields processed the document, the mimetype column in Laserfiche showed something with "iso" in it and the extension column was blank. Quick Fields had no trouble processing the PDFs when using Universal Capture. I also tested with PDFs created by Workflow and had the same results (worked with Universal but not with LF Capture).

I'm not able to reproduce it. I guess we'll have to take a look at your PDFs. Could you give Tech Support a briefcase, please?

Miruna,

The next issue was that WebDAV was importing image formats as electronic files. I tried using WebDAV from a windows client (as well as the Linux client) and had the same result. In the end, I wrote a script to use Laserfiche libraries to convert WebDAV imported TIFFs from electronic to image-type records in Laserfiche. Have I missed something or is that inherrent to working with WebDAV?
