Can specific files or folders be encrypted or password protected? Certain criminal reports we receive require a much higher level of security than other files. Is there a way these files or the folders containing them can be given an extra layer of protection beyond the usual login username/password and access rights settings? The agency that provides the criminal reports prefers encryption, but might be willing to accept password protection.

As far as encryption goes, you can do that at the volume level with encrypted file systems. That's more of a back-end protection, since the decryption will be transparent to the Laserfiche server (meaning clients/users don't have to decrypt it themselves), but it's worth considering for storing your more sensitive data.
This doesn't require any configuration in Laserfiche beyond setting up the volumes, your IT staff would have to set up an appropriate location on a file server.
