Question

How to just show the search results folder without navigation pane on the left in Web Access

asked on July 23, 2015

We are using an external url to pull up search results within LF Web Access. But we do not want the users to access the left folder navigation pane in web access and open other folders/documents.

We also tried the view=newroot attribute but it did not worked. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Nish

Justin,

We ended up making changes in Styles.css and index.aspx file to auto-hide the left folder navigation pane in web access.

I don't think you will be able to achieve this using Web Access, However, this would an out of the box solution in Web Link.

Hi Nish,

Can you provide the scenario for wanting users to be able to search but not browse? We might be able to provide alternate suggestions to addressing this knowing the specific scenario. As Glenn notes, for example, this is something you can do out of the box through WebLink.

Hi Justin,

We are using an external url from where we are redirecting users to web Access with the search results. But we do not want those users to access other folders or documents and get distracted from what they are doing.

And the customer does not use weblink so that option will not work.

Well, fundamentally that IS the primary use case of WebLink - being able to provide a customized UI targeted at external users. There's certainly some overlap where both are web views into the repository, but Web Access simply isn't setup or intended for extensive UI customization in the way that WebLink is.

Justin,

Thanks and I certianly understand the funtionality of WebLink. But is there a way to hide the left folder navigation pane in Web Access? As the customer does not have WebLink and they want this funtionality to be activated in Web Access.

Any workarounds would be helpful as well.
