entry locked when changing metadata

We have a user every now and then saying that when they go to change the metadata on an document in the repository they, even though it didn't have a lock on it before they get the [9014] entry locked error and they can't change the metadata. (mainly the date field it seems)

 

This has come up in the past and we thought it was fixed as the problem had seemingly gone away. Is there any reason this might possibly be happening? This is also happening in folders that have 0 workflows or Quick fields that interact with the documents.

You can see if a document is locked with the "Locked By" column:

Add it to the entry listing by right clicking on the column headers, choosing "More..." and checking the Locked By column.

Yes i am aware of this, you can also see the little lock symbol on the icon. However its not locking it until they try and update metadata.. then doesn't allow them to actually change it.

If it is locking the document but still failing because of the lock, that is a bug. Please open a support case so we can further troubleshoot the issue. You might want to make sure they are using the latest service pack for the version of the client they are using.
