Question

Compare Versions and other Documents

asked on July 17, 2015

I read on the post for PowerPoint and Excel "Compare versions" vs. Word "Compare versions" how there should be a blue hyperlink available to compare versions. However, I was helping a customer today and that link was not showing. Is there any other criteria that the Word document needs to have for that hyperlink to be present?

Also, is there a way to compare text similarities between two separate documents?

What did you mean by "not showing"? Was the text in black? Or were you unable to compared versions at all?

To get to that dialog, your document must first be placed under version control. Then, you should open the metadata for that document > go to the versions tab > select the two versions > right click > select Compare changes:

Yes, the "Changed" is in black. I verified that the version control was activated. My customer would like a more detailed way to compare the actual changes between versions as opposed to just the display of how many pages were changed. She would like to see the pages side by side and the changes highlighted or marked in a way to asses them. Is there a way to see these details?

thank you

Is there a difference in the electronic document itself between the two versions? Note how in my screenshot, the "Changed" link only shows for the Electronic Document changes, and not for the Pages.

If the difference is in the electronic document, then I'm not sure what else could be the issue. What version of the desktop Client are you using?
