There are different backup models in SQL (simple and full etc.) but from a windows perspective there isn't really a way to do incremental backups to my knowledge without some sort of 3rd party tool or backup software. If you have virtual servers usually there are some options within VMware and Hyper V etc. The backup size usually stems back to volumes, as these house the bulk of the data. Once you get your volumes in order you may find that you don't need incremental backups as your daily 'live' data may not be big enough to warrant incremental backups.
