Question

Would LF ever save files only to the TEMP folder and not on the server? - data loss

asked on July 13, 2015

I have a customer who mentioned that after deleting the temp files on her local workstation, that there was a 3 month data loss on some repository files. Would this be possible by deleting temp files? Does it affect LF stored files?

Can you be more specific about which files were deleted? Is this with the desktop client?

The user's temp folder is used to open electronic files with the desktop client, clearing out the temp folder only deletes the files you are currently editing.

The files we deleted were a mix of random temp files over the past few months. Everything from excel temp files to word to other PDF

The LF files that lost data were mainly excel files, some Word documents, again a mix.

That's what I thought as well, that the Temp files are merely files that are opened and saved temporarilty to the local workstation, once closed and saved as new version, the temp files are either deleted automatically, or even if deleted, make no impact on the LF saved files.

It sounds like they were still editing these edocs (for 3 months?) when the files were deleted. If it turns out to be more than that, please open a support case so we can troubleshoot it further.
