capturing date received from an imported email.

My customer wants to be able to filter email's by the date that the email was received once they are inside Laserfiche.

Once the data is put into a template field I believe I can just add that field to the columns and filter them that way.

So what is the best way to pull the date sent of an email with workflow to populate the template field?

If I'm understanding you correctly, and you simply want to be able to sort and filter emails by the date they were received, then you don't actually need Workflow. Laserfiche allows direct mapping of email header fields to template fields during import. Go to the Admin Console, then Repository Options > Settings. Double-click "Default Outlook Import Options" and define the field associations there. Next time you import an email, the fields should automatically be populated.
