Question

Question

"Invalid host name. [782]" when logging into a repository through the desktop client.

asked on July 9, 2015

A client randomly receives error 782 when logging into a repository through the desktop client.

This issue does not happen all the time and seems to resolve itself. I read that it might be a DNS problem and that there are temporary fixes. Anyone know what exactly might be causing this? Thank

Are you attaching the repository via IP address or server name?  Try to attach via IP address and see if it comes back if it is a possible DNS issue.

We are having the same problem with different users getting intermittent Invalid Host Name errors.  We would like to try using the IP address to attach the repository, but do not know how.

Here are the details on a few recent errors.  The user got the first error while trying to work on a document.  She closed the document and got the second error when she tried to open another document.  She closed Laserfiche and got the third error when she tried to open it again.

To attach the client by IP, simply open the client. Select Attach. In the dialog that comes up, put the LF server IP in the Server field by typing it in manually.

Below it, select the drop down arrow.  If you typed in the IP correctly, the drop down should list your repository name. Select it and login like you normally would.
