I see there is a setting labeled "Limit text searches to" that will limit the results returned from a text search. But is there a similar setting that also applies to a basic search? We have had performance issues were users have executed basis searches that are too broad and churn for minutes and minutes and eventually cause system performance issues. I have read the white paper titled Improving Laserfiche Search Performance but I don’t see such a setting discussed.

I have had similar issues, I have instructed my users to use the field search as any value they need to search for will be in the template. Every so often there is a value that isn't in the field values and we evaluate to see if it is something we need to add.
There is currently no way to prevent users from performing these long searches but we are investigating this for a future version.
Note that the options to limit search results do apply to basic search as of Laserfiche 9.1. As Robert notes, we're also investigating ways to provide administrators with more control over what types of searches users can run.
Thanks for the response Justin. We are running Laserfiche 9.1.1.548, but both he desktop client and the web client do not seem to respect the search results limit setting. Do we need to do anything in particular to enable this setting? I have tried limiting the results to a few different values from 10 to 100 and also 1000. I have also tried checking and un-checking the box next to the "Limit text searches to" lable.
Note that non-indexed searches will not be limited, so you might see more results even with the limit. The quick search should be exactly the same as the corresponding common/basic search in the main search pane, so that's what you'd want to compare with. That said, I may be mistaken that it applied - looking at it, I think I was thinking of root word search.
