To help answer this question, could you please provide more information?

  • What types of files having this size would you like to use with Laserfiche?
  • What kinds of processing would you like to perform on these files using Laserfiche?
  • What versions of Windows will be used on the Laserfiche Client machines?

Thank you.

Thank you for your inquiry. If I understand correctly, this is a project for Digital Asset Management (DAM) or Multimedia Asset Management (MAM). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_asset_management

We value your opinions greatly because we are looking into ways to expand our product capabilities toward DAM/MAM applications. The Laserfiche ecosystem also provides a great opportunity to network with other VARs and solution providers who may have experience implementing DAM/MAM projects.

Uploading and downloading should be able to handle large file sizes, up to the file size limit allowed on the file system on which the repository volume is located.

Searching on document properties (such as document names and owners), metadata (template fields) should work as usual because they are unaffected by large file sizes.

Text searching on large repositories and documents containing large amounts of text is an ongoing focus of the Laserfiche development teams. Please refer to this post for information: https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/64839/Fulltext-Search-Performance-and-Scalability

Processing of larges images (in formats such as JPEG, TIFF and PNG) are subject to more limitations and system capabilities. It is advised to perform some testing using customer-provided large images.

Laserfiche Client has been tested to import and display digitized black-and-white (bitonal) architectural drawings up to Arch E size, as defined in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_size#North_American_paper_sizes.

Viewing of color images on Laserfiche Client will require more memory on the client-side than black-and-white images.

Note that other capabilities, such as printing, adding annotations, and text recognition (OCR) have lower size limits, and may be further limited by third-party software and hardware components outside our control.

If the images contain high-fidelity image data (greater than 24 bits per pixels RGB), there are additional precautions. It is advised to perform some testing with customer-provided images to ensure that customer requirements are being met.

Details can be found on https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/77132/Drag-and-drop-multiple-photos-in-jpeg-format. The key points are:

  • Modification to image files may occur during importing, or when using Laserfiche products that specifically modify images such as Quick Fields and PhotoDocs.
  • Whenever modifications happen, Laserfiche will maintain up to 24-bits per pixel RGB fidelity, or 32-bit per pixel RGBA fidelity if the image contains transparency. In some use cases, CMYK and CMYKA pixel data may also be accepted but is not guaranteed to be lossless. Images containing higher fidelity will be downgraded to the fidelity described above.
  • Laserfiche can be configured to not modify images during import in the Options dialog on Laserfiche Client, by removing the file extensions from the File Conversions list.

PSD format can be imported into and exported from Laserfiche as electronic files (e-docs). Laserfiche will not perform image processing on these files. Laserfiche Client does not have a built-in viewer for the PSD format. When a PSD file is opened from Laserfiche Client, it will try to launch any third-party application that is installed and registered to handle such file.

Large video files such as MPG and AVI will also be launched using any third-party application installed, or using the browser if launched within Laserfiche Web Access or WebLink.

WebLink 9 has the new ability to stream large video files, meaning that video playback can start while the transmission of the document is still in progress. There are plans to add video streaming to an upcoming version of Laserfiche Web Access. This feature is not available in Laserfiche Desktop Client. For more details please refer to this post: https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/73228/Video-streaming-within-the-desktop-client

Once again, thank you for sharing your information with us.
