Question

Stress/Load Testing - Enterprise Deployment

asked on June 26, 2015

Hi All,

When rolling out Laserfiche under enterprise deployment it is necessary to perform some kind of stress load testing on the system before 'go-live'. In the past for a previous customer I remember having the use of a simulation tool that was provided by Laserfiche, however this was V8 and I can't find what I did with it.

Is there a simulation tool available for V9 that can simulate users running 50 searches at once or importing 100 documents at once etc. so we can perform some kind of stress/load testing without having to actually go and get 50 people to do a search at once.

Cheers!

We don't have an official product that does that kind of load testing.  Maybe you were working with Pre-sales or LFC?

Thanks for the Reply Brian,

I will give our Account Manager a shout on this one.

Would it be possible to raise this as a feature request? Something like this would be really useful. It doesn't have to be fancy. Just something simple to simulate searching/importing.

Cheers!

Hi All,

Is there any update to this feature request? It's been 6 years now.

Cheers!

There is a rich ecosystem of open source load testing tools, so I don't think there's a need for us to reinvent the wheel here. Internally, my team uses Locust, Selenium and sitespeed.io.

The general approach is to use Locust to put load on the system. While it's under load, you can of course manually assess its responsiveness, or you can use Selenium or sitespeed to measure it.

@████████,

Do you have any code samples you use for Locust and sitespeed.io?

Hi Chris,

Some years ago, Laserfiche released some software to gather search metrics through their SPs. It was never meant for general distribution or performance testing though. Is that the software you're thinking about?

Hi Ben,

Yes, I think. There were some pretty basic VB scripts that were distributed back around 2010 I remember. I was simply looking for an updated copy of those.

I still think this is something LF should provide, as a general way of testing system performance.

Someone with a bit of coding knowledge could probably update the VB scripts in half an hour, beyond me unfortunately....
