Weblink 8 to 9 - Lost ability to directly open .htm files

asked on June 18, 2015

After upgrading from Weblink 8 to 9, we noticed a change in behavior when serving electronic documents.

Before, when we linked directly to an electronic document of extension .htm through:

https://servername/Weblink8/0/doc/1413/Electronic.aspx

The file would open in browser and not prompt for download.

Now with WebLink 9, we are prompted to save the file for download.

Here are my Weblink 9 document view settings:

And Weblink 8:

If the file is an .htm it asks which application I would like to open the file with or asks me to save the file which is undesired behavior.

It looks like this may have been an intentional change for security purposes but wanted to verify or see if there is a workaround to allow specific extensions to open in the associated application immediately.

Regards,

Carl

This change was made for security reasons.  When an html document is opened directly (like it was in WebLink 8) the browser runs the content in the same security context as the rest of the WebLink application.  Someone with control of this document can place Javascript in it to steal your credentials or read Laserfiche content through your connection that they wouldn't be allowed to access on their own.

*Note, I've tried it with the weblink 9 setting of "Other electronic documents" unchecked, as well.

Thanks for the quick response Brian. We'll look to modify our approach as we shouldn't need to serve html through Weblink anyways.
