Checklist for point-in-time backup for Forms upgrade

asked on June 18, 2015

Hey everyone:

Me again, with yet another question about Laserfiche Forms. angel

Looking forward to future upgrades, I wanted to make sure all of my bases were covered with respect to being able to revert back in the event of an issue.  I just wanted to run my checklist by everyone to see if there might be something I'm missing:
1) Take a snapshot of the virtual machine hosting Laserfiche Forms (if applicable)
2) Perform a backup of the database associated with Laserfiche Forms
3) Restrict all inbound access to all forms (to ensure no new entries are populating the repository in the interim)

Is there anything I might be missing, or should be considering?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

That sounds right! First, restrict all Forms submissions (simplest way is turn of the Forms Routing service) and then you only need to make sure that the Forms database is backed up.

If you've created any custom JavaScript files then those will need to be backed up too.

K...so nothing to do with IIS or anything?  I suppose my snapshot of the virtual machine would take care of that. :)

Yes, a snapshot of the VM where the Laserfiche Forms database is hosted on is sufficient. So long as you have the database, you won't lose the forms processes you've built and any submission information. It's simple enough to reinstall Forms and reconfigure IIS (which is part of the Forms install).
